The anthology of longlisted poems for the 2007 Newcastle Poetry Prize (NPP), won by Mark’s poem “Eclogues.” The NPP is perhaps Australia’s foremost poetry prize. This was the first time Mark won the prize; his poem, set along the Wingecarribee, is a poem in the tradition of Virgil’s pastorals, a sustained contemplation of climate change, wildness and domesticity, of grief and love—a remarkable choreography, according to the judges, of the intimate and the ultimate. The collection includes poems by many of Australia’s leading poets.
