Pocketry Podcast

Thank you, Indrani Perera, for a wonderful interview, which runs as two episodes of her podcast series, Pocketry.

The first (episode five) ran last week; episode six, where we talk about inspiration, the uses of form, and the eco-spiritual politics of the lyric, goes live on Tuesday 10 August. If I’d know the quote at the time, I’d have said what Paul Valery said once about the inspiration and the craft involved in poetry: the first line, or the opening inspiration in poetry is the ripe fruit you find at your feet out walking; the poem is the tree the poet writes to yield the fruit that falls.
